All lanl must lay, comporatively with no waste no 0) i oirtiaiire, Pi The latter part of June, while we were at Obcrlin, an item appeared in this paper, and coming from a party or two, who affirmed very ttrong the truthfulness thereof, looked rather plausab-le, but there are always two sides to any question, and upon investigation we find that the said to be "vigilance committee" organized for the purpose of putting a stop to contesting, is false, DEALERS IN Will, at all times, be pleased to attend to the wants 01 their customers. "Wonder if the Eustis people will come down to see the scrub races, and get sold again, while there are 60 teams at their town. Last Saturday, they had eight by actual count as Bev. Doyle and R. M. Kiefer were there.

We suppose the other Saturday the Democrat put down 6 and the "0" which is nothing, was added. If you wich to see teams, come to Voltaire. The curse of a nuisance in the shape of a paper will yet prove the ruin of Voltaire. Predction of the Colby Democrat. Colby Ediot.

Yes sir, you just struck your name that clip, and some the Colby gentlemen have purchased a number of lots in Voltaire of R. S. Hendricks, of At-wood, but we hardly think they will call for you to come over here to spread out your soft sluggy brains on paper for their benefit. J. J.

Thomas, J. B. Morris and Doc Phillips, the great hunters of the west, shouldered their guns and strapped on their knap-sacks and struck out for Colorado, Monday, to capture the game of that state. If Lengthy Hoffman and Harwood had went along, then our hunters cut would have been appropriate, and we would have seen them come in with wild game(?) abundance, and three or four jugs of mineral water, but as it is we only expect to get one quarter of a buffalo. E.

E. Blackman, of LaBlanche, and secretary of the company who are talk-of building the new Gandy town No. 3, and G. W. Whitmore, ofBuleton, were in town Tuesday and made the News a pleasant call, and also enrolled their names upon our large list of subscribers.

They appear like gentlemen, and we are sorry that they are connected with such a scheme; but if they are not Gandy men we hope they may get their eyes open, yet it looks a little as if they were having a hand in doing some of the scheming. A letter from the U. S. Land Office at Washington, received last Saturday, gives us our instruction what to do and what they will do, which will be apt to leave someone and perhaps a good many in the cold. We have been trying to have the homesteaders stand up and fight for their rights, but it appears that a great many are willing to be gulled, rather than to stand up for law and justice, just the same we are warning them now in regard to this new divide town, but likely some will go right along-and then wake up in pargatory.

Now look out and accept a small bit of advice and you may be much happier in the near future, or perhaps a little farther off. Don't let the second error be worse than the first, but heed the warning. Gala day! Grand Picnic and town lot sale at the booming town of Manchester, Kansas, on Wednesday, Aug. 24th, 1887. Close beside the beautiful Tennessee, Under its banks of Clav. Some unknown soldiers were buried one day; Their shoes were old, their coats were worn: But at "Voltaire" is a new G. A. R. Post born.

In answer to their country's call. They left wife, mother, friends and all; Bravely they took their stand, And fought for their flag and land; Sometimes they were tired and worn At "Voltaire" is Sherman G. A. K. Post born.

Some died far away from home, From loved ones they longed to see; They died in the land they came to conquer, And sleep in the valley of the beautiful Tennessee, Fired to death by wounds and worn: Look here the "Voltaire" G. A. R. Post is born. J.

O. FAXttlElXS ALLIANCE. The Farmers Alliance is an effort to benefit humanity and protect the weak against the strong, the Alliance and the laboringman will very likely unite, and elect men for office out of their own ranks, who are clear of head, firm of conviction, and invulnerable against corruption, and intrust them to carry out the principals of his party, then we may hope to pay off qmv mortgages; and contract no start out again on the road to prosperity; but the present condition of farmers is the result of unjust laws, passed by both the old parties, working for the greedy few, and against the interest of the indus-trions many. These laws can be repealed quite easily when the many awaken from the lethargy which binds them, an organization is one of the means through which the knowledge of condition and remedies will come; therefore those who feel the grinding process should join our "Alliance" attend our meetings and take part in all the discussions of all question which may arise, for out of the discussion of ideas will come the remedy; now then, let every one, farmers and laborers, work and vote for his own interests, and give his heartiest support to our "farmers paper" of our own town. J.

Olthoff. In looking over our exchanges we notice two more dirty, low degraded, puppies who are trying to stand np and fight Tully Scott's battles, but they are crowing too soon, as our mill is still grinding and the mill-stone will be very apt to fall upon their own heads, and they may be crushed to powder. When in a cause of justice and law, we care not for the miserable whelps like Hum-1 phrey of the Wano Plain dealer crj Marks of the Colby Democrat, for soon-: er or later their dance will be turned into mourning, and when your calam-its and fear cexneth someone laugh and mack. and Mr Mead did not belong to said organizing at that time, nor was the committee organized for that purpose, as we have had a talk with tho Deck er boys and Mr. Mead, and they were very wrongfully charged, and this hubbub is carried away with the wind, as there is no secret about their by-laws or costitution but what they would be willing to have published, and we hope all will be satisfied with this explanation and vindication.

We must say a word in regard to our homesteaders and many of our citizens here in town, that they have done amazingly well in sending the News to their friends who reside in other counties and States, which not only gives this paper the largest circulation in this county, but it advertises this countjr and town far and near, and brings people to this beautiful garden of the great West, where the products com pare favorable with any other state we can hear of. Our paper goes from Cal if orna to the utmost parts of the East, North and South, and no patent midi-cine notices and ads to run their nose against, with the exception of on the patent inwards." We don't carry such half price ads and charge our home patrons regular prices, as is done in the most of cases by other papers, but our readers get reliable ads and the other columns filled with reading matter, and not soldiers columns to run year in and year out. We hope that two thirds or three fourths of our homesteaders of Sherman county, will be more sensible than to I taken up with strange gods and led away into the wilderness and slaught ered like they have been in the pat year or more, by men of other comities and states who's cheif aim it has been and is to-day to eat the fat of this land, and devour the homesteaders of thi county. This town was the FIRST town in this county, not-with-standimj the Eustis Democrat's article, which is only a false falshood, and known to the most of the homesteaders in this county to be such, and the location the in Sherman, and the most measures will be dealt out to the county and homesteaders, but not to Schemers and foreign robbers. VV desire to see peace and hope it may reign in our midst, but we say pull down your "old protecters" and stop this foreign robbery at once, and have this matter settled and be happy for five or ten vears at least.

We are as- as sured of an R. R. through this point in a very short time, which is the only promise ever made here by the man himself. The bogus 20 silver certificate of the series of 18S0 have made their jij pearance. These counterfeits first appeared in 1683, and were circulated chiefly in the West.

Two years ago, last December, the counterfeiter was arrested and the plate captured, but nut until the forgers had buried a lot of th bongus money. They can readily Ie detected if a person will take the trouble to inspect them closely. They are a trifle shorter than the genuine notes and some of the letters are engraved upside down. There are several blemishes in the printing. The word "taxes" on tho back of the note reads "tares." American matcft manufacturers say that the improvements to be looked folia, matches will concern quality rathr than cheapness.

A match that will resist water is much to bo desired; uIfo a safetv, nonnoisonou3 match that can be lighten without the box; a match that will give out a pleasant perfume is desired, and lastly, a match of some matter other than wood, but winch must be as cheap. Some curiosities in the way of matches have been made of sandal and cedar wood and perfumed with camphor were very expensive Some cf the Japanese paper matches burn with a delicate scintillation and with out odor but they are also exper? sive. 1 1 To LOliSJ On all Good Proofs we will do better than 10 strait.
