Shull principal of the city high school, and Prof. J. M. Naylor, principal of Lewis academy, of this city, assistants. The most fashionable jewel of the day, next to the diamond, is the sapphire.

Those of the. darkost hue are preferred, and they are generally set with diamonds or rubies. The dark colored sapphires are arc the most costly, and they are the rarest. Many beautiful designs can be seen in the show-cases of the leading jewelers. One is a tiny three-leafed clover with a diamond, a sapphire, and ruby set, in each haf.

The most fashionable ring for fientleinen is a heavy gold band, in which three sapphires arc deeply imbedded. Iu a lady's ring the largest stones are used. Tho desigrg are many, but the sapphire is always the center stone. When fringed with small diamonds or rubies, it has are markably brilliant effect. This stone is also set in scarfpin, the most popular design boiug a sailor's knot, made of gold, with a small sapphire set in the center.
