Rkpub, Our Capital city goes strong on conventions at any and all times, but this day she has had her till. First the County Convention met at ten o'clock, but without transacting any business adjourned until two. At twelve tho Judicial District Convention nominated John Morton for Judge of the Third Judicial District, on the tirst ballot. Mr. Morton is well known throughout the State, uud without any exception is tho best titled for the position of any man in the District.

At two p. the County Convention re-nssoinlilud ami proceeded to business, Tho first thing in order was the nomination of a Stato Senator. Several gentlemen were put in nomination, and several ballots taken, iimdlv resulting in the nomination of Mr." II. W. Fitzpatrick.

Mr. Fitzpatrick is an honest farmer living lour miles from Topeka, is well respected by all that know him, and will work for the best interests of tho people of this County and State, in all matters that may come before him in the Senate. For Clerk of the District Court. Hiram McArthur was nominated for re-election. Mr.

McArthur has held tho position for six years, and has given universal satisfaction, lie is a one-armed man, and not being able to work for a living, it is but justice to him that he should be continued in this olllce. A better record of a court, probably, cannot be found than is in his olliee. For Probato lodge, L. llanbnck, of Topeka Township, was nominated, lie is said to bo an honest man and a good lawyer. Superintendent of common schools was given to a crippled soldier, Mr.

Evans, of Auburn township, ie is not very well known throughout the county, but was so strongly backed by his home delegation that, with the sympathies of the people in favor of a disabled soldier, lie was nominated on the tirst ballot. For County Attorney Tom. Ryan was nominated bv acclamation. He has hehl that position for two years, and his receiving tho nomination for re-election by acclamation, is asuf-licient recommendation for his past services. After electing a county committee, the names of all I do not remember, tho Convention adjourned.

Immediately after the adjournment of the County Convention, the District Convention for the 41st Representative District met. Mr. John Guthrie was nominated for re-election on the tirst ballot. Mr. tiuth-rie did good service for this District in tliu llouse last winter, and as a reward for tho service there rendered, thapcoplc will return him with the expectation and belief that he will do his duty honestly, thoroughly, and manfully.

Itefore adjourning the County Convention passed a resolution instructing the Senators to vote lor the extension of the right of suffrage to the colored people. Tho resolution had some opponents, but was passed by a huge imijoritv. ilow gentlemen claiming to he Republicans can oppose such a resolution, is more than the writer, as an honest and whole-souled Republican, can see. If we take Republicanism at its meaning, and the word Republicanism in its true signification, it is plain to lie seen that we have in the Republican parly many persons that have not the least essence of Republicanism about them. A GOOD THING. Tho political pictures in Harpers' Weekly have become a feature of the campaign. They convoy volumes of argument in tho most vivid and picturesque style. Tho one in the issue for tho 26th is a most capital hitting off of the inconsistencies of the Democracy upon tho subject of the negro. Tlx upper part of the page represents a line pic-nic gathering ot colored people in and around a school house, adorned with flags having Republican mottoes, with a stalwart negro plowman in the foreground swinging is hat and cheering.

On the opposite side of the way is a shanty marked "Democratic club," by the side of which surrounded with aov and pigs, and some dirty brats of children playing with the swine, and amid old whisky bottles, sits a Democratic voter, evidently of the Celtic persuasion, with 11 stump of a pipe in tine hand, and holding his nose with the other; while a better dressed Democrat of the Xasby order is rushing frantically toward ids Celtic brother also holding his nose and pointing across tho way to the colored gathering. This picture is labelled, "The odor ot tho nigger (Republican) is offensive." The lower part of tho pago is devoted a different scene. Here arc our Southern orators and statesmen in closest association with the negro, trying to gel his vote. A negro exquisite is having his boots blackod by Gen. Wade Hampton.

A Democratic ball and barbecue is in progress, to which colored voters are invited, and where an exaggerated specimen of Sambo escorts a couple of the daughters of the chivalry, behind whom Gov. Wise spreads his hands, as in a benediction, exclaiming: "Convince the negro that wo arc bis real friends." In one corner ot the room a venerable darkey and a Southern tire-cater nre crossing their legs beneath a small table, and the darkey sips his cobbler through a straw while his companion expounds politics to him. Just over hangs a placard inscribed with "Seymour the frieud of colored orphans." In ho dist ancc a ball room opens where dusky bcaus arc escorting chivalrous dames at a Deuiocral-ic ball. The whole tiling is wonderfully effective. Wo commend a careful ttuAr of it to the young orator from Leavenworth who bad so much to say to our people tho other night about "negro equality." The rations were all gone, and their only dependence was horse and mule meat ami courage. The Colonel thought, if absolutely necessary, they could sustain themselves six days longer. The Indians were evidently sick of their bargain, and if it were not for the condition of their wounded, eight of whom were very badly hurt, they would come thro'ugh to Wallace, as' he was confident of whipping out the enemy if attacked.
