The District Cenrt. The Ford County District Court held a four days session last week, and much of the business was disposed of. Jndge Madison presided. County Attorney F. J.

Oyler, Sheriff Hale and deputies, and T. E. French, District Clerk, with J. W. Hldlow, assistant, preformed their respective duties.

The criminal cases occupied the greater part of the time of the court, and in the disposition of these cases Jndge Madison used diligence, and delays were not tolerated. The disposition of the cases were In accordance with the facta as they presented themselves, and may. not have been according to the desires of some people. v'. Ih the case of Fred Erskine, charged with stealing a calf the jury ou an in-formal ballot stood eight for acquittal and four for conviction.

The defendant was given the benefit of the doubt or extenuating circumstances which always attend such charges, aud the young Next Monday the Kansas presidential electors meet at Topeka. They will cast their votes for McKinley and Roosevelt. It is said Farmer" Smith will have the houor of bearing the official message 1 to Washington. There Is a probability that coal will be scarce. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard lose the greater part of their clothing and household furnishing goods. An effort was made to put out the fire with blankets, aud that failing, water was thrown onto the flames, which caused the explosion. An insurance of $500 was on the property, but this amount will not cover the loss.
