HIGGINS, Real Estate, Loan an Insurance Ag't, KINSLEY. KANSAS. Purely Pulllkial. The Democrats of this county aoem to be laboring under the hallucination that all the available sueriffullty timber In the county is wrapped up iu the person of John Formi, and a few seem to regard it as preposterous thut any one should undertake the race against him. Conceding that Mr.

Forun baa made a good officer and is a good muu in every respect, it does not necessarl-ly follow that his opponent, Hod Scott, is Hot equally as upright and honorable in all the walks of life and has not (he elements within him for the making of as good an officer as Mr. Foran. While there ia no one who oun say aught against Mr. Foran either as a man or an officer, it will not be denied thut Mr. Scott's standing is equally as good.

No one will for a moment question Mr. Soott's integrity, or ability to perform the duties of the office of sheriff. No one will say that he is not the peer of Mr. Foran in all thut goes to make up a good citizen an4 a good officer. This being true, can any one offer a good reason why any Republican should scratch Scott ahd vote for Tlia Needs of tin Hour.

Work will bo commenced next weok upon our water-works uud by the week alter upon our packing houses, and in oli probability upon our paper mill and paper box factory. The laborers nuoessury to push all these enterprises to a rapid completion will form quite au addition to our population, and must be fed, clothed uud hbusud while the work progresses. There is no question as to our ability to feed and clothe them, but at present we are hardly prepared to house them. We would suggost to our local capitalists that right here is a very inviting field for the investment of some of their surplus wealth, with a sure thing on good returns for tiie outlay. A hundred or two hundred houses will be needed.

They need not, necessarily, be large or expensive, so that they are finished upoomfortably. The demand for them will not be transient, for before the preseut works are completed there will be others equally as large in course of erection and in addition, the twelve or fifteen hundred operatives will all need houses. The probabilities are that three fourths of II. S. "WILSON, A.

It is a con I est be-tween the Republican and Democratic parties, and regardless of how many Republican votes Mr. Forun receives, if elected it would be claimed as a Democratic victory and the news would be flashed across the continent that "way out here in Kansas the Republican party was snowed under." The contest in Edwards county this fall is between parties, and the only question to be considered is which party is eutitlod to the respect and honor and votes of the people. The Democratic party's record ought to condemn it in the estimation of every man who loves his countrv and its institutions. It Is a party of treason, of fraud and of Intimidation.

That it has control of the executive department of the government to-duy, is due to the absolute disfranchisement of a majority of the voters in ut least five states.
