A century and a quarter there were some religious sects that discus ed the question of human slavery, and decided that it was wrong in the sight of God, and contrary to the Christian religion to buy and seU human beings as though they were cattle, disregarding the marriage rela tions and destroying tho ties that should exist between mother and child, besides' extorting their lifelong labour without recompense.

The particulars of the case can be summed ur in a few words. The Weaver boys were regarded as what is termed roughs and had wontonly and feloniously assaulted an inoffensive citizen of a neighboring village and af t9r kno eking him down with an iron weight shot two or three holes in his prostrate body and being captured were conveyed to Wellington and kept in jail until the day set for trial they were taken to Harper to be tried according to the law.

Court had been in ses sion a week or more and several criminal cases had been tried and nearly all walked out of the court house scott free and some of the parties even bragged as soon as they were out that they were guilty but that they were not afraid of being punished, etc, and instead of proceeding to the trial of the Weaver boys, they were granted a continuance (always the first step to a clearance) and a motion to reduce the bail to a trifle, (the next step) but there is always a limit to human forbearance; the enraged community took the law into their hands. We are "informed by a gentleman just from DanviHe that the citizens there generally place the blame of the lynching where it belongs, and where they place it is only the fulfillment of a prophesy that we put forth last October that 9 would come to pass in case of certain events. It is an old established fact that where criminals are net properly dealt withj crime increases just in that ratio. -T. A.COOKSEYJtr- Transfer, Jobing, Coal Delivery.

These people scattered aU over this broad land have taught from a religious stand point, temperance, in its broadest, deepest and highest sense, both by example and precepts; and all this hundred and fifty years this ordinance eas been in full force in all their churches, and they have diUigently taught it to their children and grand children, and yet all this time they have been subject to Insult, and have been called cranks, and fa natics, willing to endure persecution rather than offend their Maker and bring reproach upon the religion of the Savior of the world. But, as the days of slavery were numbered and the end hastened by the insatiable aggression of the slave power; so the implacable hatred of the rum power to all that is good in morality, relig: ion or virtue, the irrepressible conflict is near at hand when, for the preservation of the youth of the land and the honor cf our great nation, communities, states, counties and churrhes are comisg up, yes, we A. 1IUBR A E.
