John McCabe has been improving the appearance of his home by adding a new coat of paint. The spelling school last Wednesday evening was well attended and enjoyed by I present. a short time ago addressed to the Hon. Mutlicld Green, Kansas. Mrs, Etta Vestering, accompanied by her sister, Miss Julia McCabe, returned to her home in Wichita this week. Trains tir No Trains! Trom Strong City Derrick There was a meeting of citizens held in the city hall Monday night fur the purpose of selecting a committee to be present at the meeting of the Stale Hoard of Hail Road Commissions at To-peka Wednesday, at which time a hearing will be had in the matter of the removal of trains from this place. The meeting was presided over by Mayor O'liyrnes and Geurgo Young acted as scribe.

i 1 Cochran explained what he had previously done in the matter and volunteered to go to Topeku with the committee: as also did li. Lantry. Both of which oilers weie accepted and the following named gentlemen were chosen to accompany them: James O'liyrnes. J. L.

A supscription was circulated and funds raised to defray expenses of the committee. Meeting adjourned till the committee returned to report. The committee returned last night and feel quite confident of success. Countv Attorney Cochran explained the situation to the commissioners ami in a clear and comprehensible manner set forth the grievances of the citizens. Kach member did all be could for the furtherance ol the cause and it is sincerely hoped that success will crown their efforts.

Lookout For Snow, In order that everybody may get away from cold weather, The Santa F'e Houte will run a series of excursions to Texas, commencing on lec.l2, 1803 and on the second Tuesday of each month until May 1 894. Viz: Dec. 12, 1803, Jan. 9, Feb. IS, March 13, April 10, and May 8, 1894.

A rate of one fare for the round trip has been made to all point in Texas. Tickets good for thirty days from date of sale and stopover ill lie allowed in Indian Territory Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas on the going trip. These tickets will have to be used on day of sale. This very low rati? ill enable all, whose means are small, but whose ability to work is large, to visit the greatest State in tho Union. On ten acres of ground within a reasonable distance of Galveston or Houston one can make a good living, and on twenty acres can attain a competence by raising Pears, Strawberries and Vegetables.

There is scarcely a day in the year hen a farmer cannot plow the fields and take something to town of bis ow raising. This fall W. II. Stingfellow, of Hitch-kock, netted over live thousand dollars from thirteen acres of Pear trees, the latest having been planted eight yean go. That can be duplicate by anyone else who gets on the right location.

Land is not high, varying in price from Ten to Twenty dollars per aero. The climate ol the Coast Country is a very pleasant one, the thermometer rarely exceeding ninety degrees in the summer or falling below thirty live in winter. The constant breeze from the Gulf, (which reaches in forty or fifty miles) keeps the sun from unfavorably affecting the farmer or his crops. The deceased was born in Prairie Du Chien, where he spent the early part of bis life, lie was a nephew and namesake of Harney Lantry of this city, ith hom he bad made his home much of the time during the past ten years. I'p to the time of his death he was in the emplove of the Santa Fe as break-man, and was a member of the brotherhood iu which orgauination he had $2001) insurance and was also a member of the Improved Older of Hed Men. Hoth orders paid their respects to an honored and beloved brother by accompanying the remains to the train Sunday. Mr. Lantry had recently returned from a visit to his old home and was in this city on Monday before his death, at hich time he was in apparantly perfect health, but was taken sick Wednesday and only lived three days.
