16 THS SCHOOL NEWS. Our young friend, Iloss Thomas, a pupil in the Gth grade, will leave with his parents for California in a few days. His playmates will be sorry to see him go. The following new pupils have entered the city schools this term: Clara Springer, Dale Andrews, Harley Drake, Frod Hutson, Anna Hutson, Ella Springer, Bertie Hutson, Percy Hunt and Willie Pugh. Lost.

On Tuesday evening Jan. 17, or Wednesday, Jan 18, in Cottonwood Falls, $5. The honest findor will be liberally rewarded by returning the same to L. A. Lowther Wo are pleased to seo that many of our pupils mako the question of "passing" subordinate to tho question of knowing, and aro taking work over again in which they feel deficient.

This is the proper spirit. Ed Pratt, who has for several years so satisfactorily served as Treasurer of tho School has resigned. W. H. Holsinger has been appointed in his stead.

This district has had and still has ono of the best school boards in the state. Arrangements havo been made by which Rev. Stafford, S. A. Breeso, F.

B. Hunt, J. C. Davis and others will favor our pupils with short interesting talks about the great stato of Kansas on tho 30th inst. All are in-vi to bo present.

The following pupils were neither absent or tardy during last term: Inez Simmons, Irvin Beach, George Austin, Vernie Hazel, May Stafford, Grace Burcham, Elsie Gilhitt, Harry Hegwer, Logan Robinson, Harry Yenglin, Lucius Pitzor, Willie Sub-lett. Total 12. Our program for Kansas Day may bo easily adapted for use in any school in tho county. Tho story of tho struggle for admission into tho Union may bo told with tho motto of the State for a subject. Get some old settler to givo a personal reminiscenco of early days in Kansas.

The poems, Quivera Eugeno Ware(Ironquill) and Walls of Corn by Mrs Allerton, aro very appropriate and may bo readily obtained. Tho essays may be written by pupils and the national songs need no explanation. Teachers' Association. The Chase county Teachers' Association will meet at Cedar Point, IH, 4th, beginning at 7 o'clock p. m.

Ad Astra per As pera "Through difliculties to the stars." As a rule, pupils are delighted with their new studies this term. Miss Carrie L. Wolf will teach the spring term of school No. 55. Miss Minnie Ellis, teacher of the Patten school, is at homo for a month's vacation.

Wo aro under obligations to Mrs W.A. Morgan for favors, in the way of books donated. Tho News needs more subscribers, and needs them badly. Will friends not "lend a hand." Arrangements aro on foot to socure tho library of Cottonwood Falls Library Association for use in the school hero. How many school boards have visited their respoctivo schools this year? How many parents have done likewise? David Ellsworth, who has boon attending school at Osage Mission, has returned, and re-onrolled in tho schools.

Tho senior class is delighted with its new quarters in Miss Pugh's room. Their isolation is making them very dignified in bearing. Is Bride-well a proper or common noun? This question has been exercising somo of our charade players recently. Who can answer? Washington's birthday, Feb. 22; Longfellow's, Feb.
