Hand, Emporia. J. M. TO rESTIOJEItM. Instruction ol' line rent from Pension Aiieiil Keller Pension Agent Kelley Saturday issued the following instructions intended to facilitate the quarterly payment of pensions: The quarterly pr.yment of pensions at this agency will begin May 4th.

There are now on the roils about b7.000 pensioners and of this number prob.iol) 77,000 will send in tiieir vouchers at once and these will be paid by the night of the 1 Uh. As this necessitates an immense amount of work, pensioners are urged not to rite to tiie office touching their checks until tHe close of thepavment. These letters are intermingled with the vouchers and are not reached until all the mail opened. Many times pensioners vvrile, saving. before the payment is concluded write that the check is already received.

We cannot stop our work in the midst of the payment to answer these letters a.s this be an injustice to other pen-' signers. TI.ey aro aIo earnestly requested to examine their vouchers and see that they are corn ctly made out, wiiu the posiotlice corre tly given OH tiie inside as well as the outside of the voucher, and that both of these harmonize; that the jural is properly filled out and the officer's ieal attached, and that there is one witt.ess to the receipts in all cases. This is important as we have to return more than 2.0'W incorrect vouchers ev ery pa ruent. Be sure that the post is prepaid. as many of these tters are held in the office un'ii we receive a note from the postmaster that such a letter is held, and that by sending the postage the letter will be forwarded to our oflice.

thus causing a delay oi several days in the payment of the voucher, and in corresponding with this agency please give name in full, number of certificate and act under which pensioned. We would be glad if the local pen-l sioners would call for their pay on the 4th, as the entire force of toe office is put at their service on that day. B. Kellet, Pension Agent. Morgan, of Le Koy, seems to have accomplished the feat in even less time. It is said that he was granted a divorce at Burlington, Kansas, oue day lust week and heme liatcly thereafter took the traiu for Kansas City, where he was united in marriage to the widow of IVrk Smith, of Le Koy. There seems to be grave doubts entertained by our legal lights as to the legality of the proceeding, as a decree for divorce iu this state does not go into effect until six mouths after granted. Let us suppose just for the sake of argument that Morgan's lirst wife takes an appeal be fore the time expires and gets the divorce set aside, would it not throw the doctor and his blooming bride into a predicament?
