When by accident its name was heard it was only thought of as a cou.itry post office or a place where a small country store was kept to supply the immediate wants of the inhabitants of the neighbor hood. Hut it has come out of this obscurity and to day occupies a prominence of which it has from the begining been worthy. The name of Xonchalanta is herald to all parts of the world, nnd men are attracted here for the purpose of procurinii homes and profitable investments, consequently new buildings are being started daily. The old stone house, the first, and for a long time, the solitary building of the town is almost lost sight of in the midst of larger and and better ones. Prominent among the new buildings now under construction is the large and handsome resilience of J.

L. Case, which will cost over eight hundred dollars when finished. Mr. Case is also building not only a substantial but a very nice lumber office, lfix2-l. The next most prominent building is the new livery barn of J.

William Keplar has a good sized resilience under roustruetion, nnd it is We believe aft every good citizen of Kansas be' -ves, that we live in the best a'inl most favored portion of the state. No better body ofbiful citn be conceived than that embraced in the counties of Mess and Hodgeman. In ural advantages they are very nearly equal, both having large districts of tine agricultural lands, an abundance of good water in streams or springs, or is obtained from wells at a reasonable depth.

Both counties are well supplied with the finest building Btone, such us is only found in this part of the state, and there is every indication that coal abounds at no great depth. And the day is not far distant when men with capital will take hold of this enterprise and will make it a remunerative business, from winch the country will reap nn everlasting benefit and blessing. We also have as good indications here for natural gas as in many localities where it has been struck in paying quantities. Hut the wealth of this section of the Mate does not lie wholly in what maybe hid in the bowleg of the earth, but it lies principally in the unsurpassed fertility of the Boil. Those who have been the most skeptical heretofore do not now doubt that this is fast developing into a very prosperous agricultural country.

Parties have been consulting in regard to erecting a large two-story stone block, and if we have not been misinformed, it will be under headway in less than a month.
