Miss Virginia Newcomb went down to Ottawa, Wednesday afternoon, to be the guest for a few days of Miss Elizabeth Dunn. Miss Edith Parkinson returned to her home, near Ottawa, Thursday of last week, after a pleasant visit with friends and relatives this place. Mrs Carrie Furry, in retiring from business, expects to enjoy rest for the present, and will probably spend several months an extended visit. Blosser returned home on Thursday of last week from a trip to Greenwood county, where he negotiating for a 160-acre tract land. While away he also visited his son Charley, at Rosalia.

ELDER 208 South Main Street, OTTAWA. CO do DIED. Neleon Reyuolds, one of Franklin county's old and respected citizens, died at his home in Pomona, Wednesday, August 2rst, at 1 o'clock m. He had been afflicted for about five weeks with what the physicians call softening of the brain. Though not confined to his bed, yet it was evident during this time that he W88 rapidly failing.

He was taken worse last Thursday might and lapsed into all unconsciousness from which he never recovered until his death. Me Reynolde was bora in Knox county, November 8, 1831. He was married to Miss Louvisa Muuday, December 29, who was the support and comfort of his life for 48 yours, she having preceded him to the other world five years ago last December. He came to Kansas in 1857, settling in Johnson county. Removed to Franklin county in 1865, from which time he bad been a reeident of this county.

Mr Reynolde was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was the father of five children, all of whom were preeent at the funeral, They are: James and Florence, unmarried son and daughter, with whom be lived; Frank Reynolde, oue of Pomona's respected citizens; Wm Reynolde, of Richmond, W. Va Mre Sadie Kopf, Elk city, Kan. The funeral was conducted from the Methodiet church, Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by Rev. Purdue, after which the remains were Inid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery, At Sparta, Baker couuty, Orogon, Sunday evening, August 11, 7901, of dropey, Jonathan Blackwell, aged 16 years, 11 months, 24 day 8.

The deceased was the oldest eon of Mr and Mre Dick Blackwell, and was born in Grant county, Oregon, August 17, 1884. About one year ago, he was a flicted by an attack of rheumatio fever from which he never fully recovered and which finally culminated in a complication of diseases, dropsy being the immediate cause of his death. Last September, in a vain hope to better his health, he accompanied his mother on a visit to relatives at Pomona, Kan, and at Wagoner, IT, where for a time he seemed to improve. In the follow. ing January they returned to but it seemed that his poor, frail body was not to be freed from racking pain until his young spirit took its flight, and he gradually grew worse until the end came.

The deceased leaves, besides his parente, three brothers and four sisters to monrn hie lo88. He was eyer kind and patient, and thereby won for himself the esteem of the people of Sparta, many of whom accompanied the remains to the grave in the Eagle Valley Cemetery where he was interred Monday. The funeral services were held at the Christian church 10 Richland, Rev Alexander officiating -Sparta (Oregon) News. Mrg Staley will give a musical recital at her residence on Saturday night. John Annett, the North Pomona township hermit, drives his cattle miles to the Marais des for water.

Charles Chrisman and Frank Wymer took their ball targets over to Lyndon, Saturday, to the big picnic and ball game. Wm Reynolds and wife arrived from West Virginia, Wednesday morning. Mr Reynolds is a son of Nelson Reynolds, deceased. A couple of apple buyers were in town Monday, looking over Whetstone's orchards with a view to contracting for the crop. Miss Alice Wilson returned home to Topeka last Friday.
