Smith ctili improving, but is not able to be as lively yet as he would lfke to be. Wm. Johnson, who lives on the McColm place, was transacting business in Marys ville last Tuesday. Mr. Jones, of Waterville, was in town one day last weeK, looming for a position In the blacksmith shop.

Mrs. Grimes was taKcn quite sicK Sunday evening. Dr. Dullard was called in and she is now much better. There was quite a large congregation cut last Sunday evening to wel come the new pastor, but he didn't welcome.

Richard Macicey was one of those who manifested his interest in the school by calling one day this wTceK-Come again. Charles and Silas JelUion made a trip to Brown Co. last wcck to assist their brother James in moving to that part of the state. Watson attended the entertainment here Friday evening. John at one 'me taught the school here and has many friends here.

Henry Twidwell went to Horton last weei; to Iook a position as engi neer. Henry has nacl considerable experience in this line of worK. In last weeks issue the item that read John Chickner should have read John Cluckncr. John says he has got so that he can hit the anvil now. Mrs, Beattie was a pleasant visitor at our school last weeK.

We would be pleased to see more of the patrons come in as it shows that they are interested in the worK. George Root went to Horton, last Thursday, to taKe charge cf a posi tion that he has secured in the shops at that place. George is a young man of business ability, and attends strictly to business. The entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings, given by Prof. Nold was quite well attended and all there seemed to enjoy themselves.

The proceeds ill be usee in securing a library for our school. One day last weeK Mr Schuylers dogs attac-Kcd and bit Walter Foltz while he was on his way home from school. The Missouri Pacific Railway will sell tickets to the Young People's Christian Endeavor Society meeting to he held in San Francisco, Califoi-nia, from July 7th to 12th, for $40,00 from all points ia Kansas. March 12, Van Hartshorn and Myrtle Maddox vert joined in marriage, at the home of the bride's parents, near La Grange. Ihe north bound Missouri Pacific passenger train was wrecked a mile and a half cast of Hiawatha, an hour or so before midnight, last Sunday night. The train was running at full speed when five head of horses were run into, four of which were thrown clear from the track, out of the way of the train, but the fifth went the engine, causing It leave the track. The baggage, smoking and chair eu's were piled up on the engine, only the sleeper staying on the rails. Three men were killed outright, and a number of trainmen and passengers more or less seriously injured.

The dead are: Engineer Edward Nye, Fireman L. O'Conner, and John 13. Meador, of Atchison, traveling salesman for theSymes Grocery Company. The above particulars of the wreck are taken from the Kansas City Journal's report of the affair, January 15th. He You A at.

Chester thinks he will tear the whole farm up, but we think the greater portion of the land will still be there in the fall. School was resumed in district 75 last Monday, with William Stewart as teacher, in place of his sister, Miss Addie. who was so frightfully burned by her clothing catching fire one day last week.

We hoped to see better times after McKinley's inauguration, but as usual were doomed to. disappointment two new brush and straw bridges were put in out in this vicinity lately. We expected them to be of solid gold. Euclid. J.
