C. Beckwith, of Waterville, are going into the skating rink business at Osborn, Kansas. Mr. Andrew Thompson, aged 84 years 9 months and 26 days, died April 6th, 1885, at Waterville. Judge H.

We visited the foundry of Bowers Son's, in this city, last week, and noticed great improvements in every department. The Messrs. Bowers have made the foundry a success since they took possession thereof. The child of C. M.

Beaman. which was burnt, as reported in last weeks issue, died on Thursday last, and was burred last Fridy. The DEMOCRAT eXtends to the parents its heartfelt symphaty in this their great bereavement. Joe Patterson has been caught at last. Those pictures of lovely maidens exhibited at Chas.

Hamelin's store broke the ice, and Joe will bid farewell to bachelordom. As he had the first pick of course he selected the best looking. Hon. John A. Broughten retired from the mayorship last Monday.

His two terms as mayor has been a success financialy and otherwise, and we only hope that our new mayor, Mr. F. L. Dow, may have the same success, and all will be well. The officers appointed by the new council are as follows.

Alvin Voorhees, son of our esteemed sheriff, J. R. Voorhees, was married to Miss Eva Gano, of Frankfort, at the residence of the brides parents. Ai. is now acting as sheriff and will reside in this city, and the DEMOCRAT welcomes Mr.

and Mrs. Voorhees and greets them as citizens of our fair city, and may happiness fotlow them through all their life The theatrical performences of the dramatic section of the Turner society here, are better than many of those by traveling companies, those' and are highly appreciated by who witness it. Every other Sunday evening they play, the next will come off' April 26th. Admission 25 cents. A social dance takes place for about two hours after the close of the performances.

W. J. McAtee's house in the southeastern part of this city, was struck by lightening during last Tuesday's storm. It struck in the corner of the house and run down on the inside of the house until it reached the cealing of the lower room, thence it turned to the outside and destroyed the porch. The family escaped unhurt, although the stroke was felt very sensitive by all.

Mann went to Kansas City, last Thursday. Hon. John A. Broughten was attending court at Washington last week. The "Bee" says, that a new bridge is badly needed across the Vermillion.

L. Wilson's stone barn, in this city. We learn from reliable sourses that the U. P. railroad will be completed between here and Manhattan, this summer.

Chas. Hamelin received a new brand of cigars from New York, last week. They are daises. Give them a trial. J.

G. Barret and ex- John D. were among those attending commissioners court Wednesday. Mayor Rhodes, of Frankfort, was fined '50 cents by the council for leaving the city council when in session yesterday week ago before adjournment. Harry Miller, of Blue Rapids, for the past four months engaged at the county clerks office, has accepted the position as teller at the First National bank in this city vs.

J. C. Eyrick resigned. The Cone brothers, Morgan and Homer, Stephen Stout, Geo. Wren and Thomas Gallagher, from Axtell, attended the commissioners court, last Monday.

County Supt. The U. P. passenger train which leaves here 6.30 n. makes direct connections at Omaha with the east going train, which arrives at Chicago at 2 o'elock the next morning.
