McBride, our Presiding Elder, made us a very pleasant call yesterday while on his way to the Epworth League convention at Blue Rapids. One week from tomorrow, October 27, will be set apart for one or two discourses on books and reading, and oubseriptions for our church periodiials will be taken. We are in receipt of a copy of the inaugural address of Dr. L. H.

Murlin as president of Baker University. It should be read bv every parent, and by our young men and women. A copy will be furnished FARRIAN Business College, Blue Rapids, Kansas. Course of Study and Expenses, The Fairian Business College has the following courses of study: Normal, Business arid Shorthand. The tuition for each department until it is completed Squire Shumate is on the roll of invalids this week.

Mrs. Lapham, of Atchison, is visiting her son, Dr. A. P. Lapham.

The colored Baptist church of Frankfort has called Rev. Mr. Arthur as pastor. Elder C. s.

L. Brown, of the Christian church, lias been hreatened with lung fever during the week. The Thimble Society will meet at the residence of Mrs C. H. Heleker next Tuesday afternoon, October 22.

Father Hartwell is lying very sick at the home of Iii son, Merritt, west of town. All the family is present. We are glad to say that Mr. G. VV.

Hartwell is much improved. His full recovery may not be impossible. Rev. W. E.

Stewart, now pastor at Parkville, was spending a few days among his old parishioners this week. is $50.00, which pays for a Life Scholarship in that department. on application to us. Under directions of the Presiding Elder, the editor will preach af the Magatagan school house on Sunday, October 27, at 3 p. and conduct sacramental service, it being the quarter' meeting occasion for the Bigelow Circuit.

The Madame Fry Concert Company, which gave a musical entertainment at the opera house, October 7, under the auspices of the Thimbie Society of the M. E. church, is among the best of its kind we have TEACHERS' COURSE. Those who wish to prepare 'for teaching will find our Normal course exactly what they want. By our system of instruction combined with class drillls, we are able to advance our pupils about one-half faster than can be done by regular normal schools.

All the work of the three above named departments combined is called the Full Course, and it represents the 'most thorough work of the college. If heard. The society deserves much credit for providing such a choice entertainment. On account of the coming cold weather, the children's class, conducted by Miss Clara Reust every Saturday at the church, will be discontinued until spring. It has been a most successful meeting, and Miss Reust has proven herself the best teacher for the class we have ever appointed for such you are deficient in your general education we The regular church prayer meetings have been resumed at the M.

church in 1880 and 1831, and now of Salina, Kansas, passed through on the east bound train one day last week. He shook hands with many old friends on the (depot platform. The Epworth League will give a social at the residence of Mrs. Benj. Bonnell, on Thursday evening, October 24.

Everybody is invited. The League wonld recommend the lull course for you. Graduates from this course receive the degree of "Master of Arts and Science," and are prepared to keep books, do business, leach school or wi ite shorthand, so that they are always certain of desirable employment if they have a good character. A Life scholarship in the. Full Course will allow you to come whenever con venient until graduation in all departments without regard to the time it takes.

It Costs $150. This course would be woi'th mol to you than thousands of dollars in money, for it would be a fortune in itself. Term and Nignt Scholarships are sold at the rate of $10 per termor 12 weeks, payable in advance. Wo make 10 per cent discount, where two members of the same family take out Life Scholarships, and 20 per cent discount where three Life scholarships go into the same family, If you wish us to furnish that will be extra. Good table board, $1.75 per week.

Room rent, 50 cents per week. Those who desire to prepare for business or to pass the required examination lor a teacher's first, second or third grade certificate, are urged to enter The Fari ian Business College now. I will, as far as possible, attend all the meetings of the Chapter; and also (where I have no other church membership or preference) the Sunday school and religious meetings of the Methodist Episcopal church. I will diligently perforin such service as the constitution may outline for associate members, and earnestly seek to promote the objects of the Epworth League, both in myself and others. I will conscien tiously abstain from all such amusements and con duct; which are of evil or questionable moral tendency.

PLEDGE FOR ACTIVE MEMBERS. specially desires the presence of all young people in and about Frankfort. Next Friday night, October 25, the temperance pledge will be presented for signers at the Epworth League meeting. The monthly Bible study will also lake place. The pledge will also be circulated in church and Sunday school, Sunday, October 27.

The Thimble Society of the M. E. church will give a supper at the church building on Thursday evening, Octobrr31. They will also have a counter at which many arlicles both useful and ornamental can be bought. It is for the benefit of the church.

Many of the subscribers have not paid subscriptions yet. The managers of the dvocatk have given ample time because money was scarce But it now becomes a "christian duty" to collect all such outstanding subscriptions. Will you kindly pay them at once 1 will earnestly seek for myself and do what I can to help others attain the highest New lestament standard of experience and life.
