Humphrey seized his sabre, gave the command "Form Square" to receive the attack and odered the officer of the guard with his men to the out post to ascertain and report the strength of the enemy. Forty rounds of ammunition and ten day's rations were issued, and everything put in order for a vigorous siege.

Officer Kingman bravely marched with his guards to meet the feejand soon returning, reported the enemy advancing in force. Capt. Humphrey ordered a grand charge and started on double quick; the gallantry of the captain here sa ed at might have been a sad calamity by discovering that that the advancing hosts were not enemies but friends. All were surprised to find the sup posed enemy to be a delegation of friendly ladies, led by Mrs. Spiller and Ki graan, bearing a number of magnificent pictures to be presented to the Post for the decoration of their hall, which were presented and received in an appropriate manner.

The ladies were then invited to the Camp Fire to partake of the soldiers fare. The occurance was a happy one indeed and will long reraemhered by those who had the good fortune to-be present.
