A fire, supposed to have canghi from a passing engine, destroyed K. L. Perry's barn and chicken house Wednesday afternoon. Loss said to be about $30. Mr.

An engine set fire to a bridge on the main line 11 miles west of Dodge City Tuesday afternoon. The bridge was almost completely destroyed. A colored man ho was out hunting noticed the lire and hastening to Dodge gave the alarm, probably thus averting a wreck as the bridge was on a down grade and trains were due from the west in a short time. The section crews from Cimarron and lngails were taken down to Howell to assist in loading some luuvy timbers with which to repair the structure. Wo was most tickled to death to receive a copy of the Gray County Skntinkl, marked with a blue pencil this week.

Wo are so glad that Bro. Garten has been reclaimed from the error of his Democratic proclivities, and will hereafter walk in the light of Republican doctrine which is shed ding its cfliigent rays over this glorious land of ours, und we welcome the dear brother that we thought was lost, back into the newspaper fraternity of Kansas, as one or its most brilliant gut- telliets. J. W. Bury of Grant "ounty. struck this section last, Monday in search of a mure which had strayed away over a year ago. By examining the stray record ut the county clerk's oflice ho located the animal at l'errel place in Foote township.

Mr. Ferrel hud advertised tho animal and hud nlmost given up hope of find ing the owner. Mr. Bury set all question of ownership aside by picking the mare out of a bunch of horses hitched on tho street without seeing tho brand, whereupon Mr. Ferrel turned the animal over, Bury paying all costs which hud accrued and permitting Ferrel to keep a colt which was born after coining to his pluce.

Rufus Bolles, who has been in charge of the east section at this place for about two yours, receiv ed notice from lloudmuvtcr Sax Wednesday morning to report for duty ut Lumnr, on February 1st, where He will be given charge of section. Thpn, why should tho printer, who generally has to eke onto half-starved ex istence. There is such a law for counties hnving over 25,000 population.

It should apply to every county in tho Btute Of course, The News has no par tioulur kick coming, us our Coun ty Board treated this paper very nicely by awarding it the county printing at full legal rutes. Hut ton, was born January 1885, in Chutnmpm county, Kansas, and died January 24, 1001, at the fnmily home iit Cimnrron, Kansas, of diptheria, aged 10 years and 1 day. Tim deceased moved to Gray county with his parents in 188(1, whoro he bus ever since resided, Ho wus posessed of a pleasant disposition and was well liked by everyhody mid his untimely death is mourned by the young folks, among whom he wus favorite. Ho was an industrious and obedient sou. and his death has caused a vacancy iii the family cirole which can nevoi- be filled. The Skntinkl joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved parents und tives iu their sad.
