G. Ryan, Agent. The Modern Doctor. I do not love you, Dr. Fell; the reason why, I'll brielly tell.

The doc tors the olden days bad kindly words and pleasant ways; and though his pills were on the bum, and sent us off to Kingdom Come, and though he liked to swell the hosts of skeletons and sheeted ghosts, it never was his foolish plan to use a saw on every man. Unlike the modern maniacs, who carve their patients with an ax, he dealt out calomel or nux, and soak ed us for a pair ot bucks, and If he killed us good old soul! he left us tu be planted whole. When I am sickly or unstrung, you ask mo to unfurl my tongue; you feel my back and say my liver's out of whack, and then von shed your vest and coat and push a lantern down my throat, and say, "Great Ceesr! What a heart! I'll have to take you all apart!" And on your table I am laid while yo i go out to bunt a spade, and dig around among mv works and find the blamed old germ that lurds srou the angle of my frame tho way you carve mo is a shame. When winter comes with frost and snow, I have a o'dlhlain In my toe; and when tor liniment I beg you Tout 'o amputate my leg; and when my throat gets sore and raw, jou want lo cure it with saw; to cure mv bald mtss you I ween, would run mo through a guillotine. A leg of mine is now nt rest among the doctors of the weal; eastern doctor has In brino anoui eight inches of my spine; the jaw thn once adorned my mouth, is kept ii pit kle in the south I do not love you Doctor Fell; oi carve too fluently and well; I fes you and your edged -tools; 1,11 send t.o correspondence schools for abseiii treatment when I'm ill or hit Uu good old fashioned pill.
