A Retrospection. It was amusing that our two most influential pulpits should be extended for the airing of the private beliefs and grievances of a disgrunted pastor. One who stands discredited by his own charge; one who is entitled to a fair hearing in his own denomination. It he does not like the denomination, let him get out. Was it the fair, honest, Christian act for a fellow church to surrender their pulpit to the discussion of but one side of a controversy, when that side was so manifestly the contentious one? We regret that such an occasion should arise in our community, for never in the past have we fathered the imaginary wrongs of a disowned pastor, although on numerous occasions we might have done so and thus have brought a blush to the cheeks of our sister congregations.

The ladies of the Presbyterian church planned a reception for Rev. Laybourn and wife to be given last Friday evening. Although it was a chilly, blustry night a large crowd gathered at E. E. Woodman's home and at eight o'clock they went to the parsonage to spend the euening.

On entering they found Mr. and Mrs. Laybourn greatly surprised at seeing this great crowd pouring into their house uninvited. But they soon understood matters and were equal to the occasion. They at once set about making it pleasant for their guests but they were almost kept busy greeting new ones at the door as they kept coming a few at a time untillate in the evening.

We venture to say that almost all the families in town were represented here, thus showing that Rev. Laybourn and wife not only have the popular favor of their owning church but of the whole town. A very pleasant evening was spent, the young folks amused themselves in playing games while the older ones engaged in social chat. The ladies of church served delicious ice cream and cake, and at ten o'clock the guests begad to say "Good Night" to this worthy pastor and wife and depart for their homes. -Vermillion Enterprise.
