M. Carnahan and daughter, Mrs. Chase, were in town Saturday and made us a pleasant call. Mr. Carnahan FIRE IN THE ALLEY A helper at the Farmer Hotel went to the alley back of the hotel to singe chickens, using poper for fuel.

The wind blew some of the fire into a pile of kindling wood and soon the blaze was leaping high. Men with buckets of water and fire extinguishers were soon on the spot and put out the fire, that otherwise might have been serious. COUNCIL MEETING The City Dads failed to have a meeting last Tuesday night on account of the lack of a full quorum. Mayor Fisher, Clerk Stillman and Aldermen Bradford nnd Tucker, Atty. Roberts and Marshall Coop were present. They had several matters of business that Mayor Fisher had intended taking up that will have to lay over till the next regular meeting night. April 1st.

WEEKLY MARKET REPORT Elkhart market report of this week. Ferguson did splendid twirling for Camp with Fi.nley.behind the bat. Biggs held first base in his usual effective style, and did some hard slugging. Second and third bases were held by Price and Dean; respectively with Cartmell on short. Talbott, Russell and Long-will had very little to do in the field" but they sacked the ba 1 when it came their way. The score was 2 to 1 in Alamo's tavor until the ninth inning, it was tied by Russell, who got a safe hit to first and stole the rest of them.

Excitement ran high until Al amo scored in the last half of the eleventh, and won 3 to 2. The game was ably umpired by the veteran player, N. Sandusky. The same team will play on the Camp diamond May 22nd. Come and see the game.

Sullivan has been very sick since Saturday. He was in for medicine for her. Dr. Tucker was called to see her Sunday; she is not serious and it is hoped that she will soon be out again. Cude will rent you a sewing machine.

8-tf. Stillman and Thayer closed two nice little deals last week. One with the Minnie Quellhorst to C. L. Ahlgren, and the other the Woodruff place to Harry Shrauner.

F. Norris of the county cap ital and three of his friends from Nickerson, Kans. were in town last Thursday. The visitors had out to see some real estate that one of them had bought neur Richfield. See me for a good loan on your Morton county farms.

Cecil B. Long, Elkhart, Kansas. (In the Bank block. Rex Powelson, and L. G.

Blackmer of Hooker, Okla. were in our city Thursday transacting business and meeting with old friends. Mr. Blackmer is president of the First National Bank of Hooker and Rex is associated with the Scott and blackmer Realty Firm. Rev. I. Jones from the Wil-lowbar, Okla. community, was detained here Tuesday by the rain, and while here he made us a call and became a reader of the Enterprise. He is pastor of the Baptist church at Willowbar.

W.H. Odneal was in town Tuesday for lumber for building purposes. He has onlybeen in our vicinity a short time. He came here from, near Forgan, Okla. and has located west of town.

He says people are coming into that part and buying land alipost every day. One man was asked to sell and refused. He was asked to price his place and he put it $5,000, and the buyer took him up once So the man who sold and several others from that section are coming to this locality. Mr. Odneal is well pleased here.

METHODIST NOTES Last Sunday was a good day with us. The Sunday school and morning preaching service were attended by a small but interested audience. The League service in the evening was reported as a splendid service.

The services in the country at Point View and at Wilburton in the evening were good. The work is progressing and we are encouraged with the outlook. The prayer meeting will be held, as usual, on Thursday evening. Let us make this a profitable service. Services next Sunday are as follows: Sunday school at 10 a.

m. preaching at 11 a. m. Leasee at 7:30 p. m.

preaching at.8:30 p. m. The pastor will preach in the afternoon at Union Center. Sunday, May 30, will be a fifth Sunday. -In order to avoid confusion the pastor will preach in town that day.

Joseph Elmer Mar-low of Liberal, Kansas. It was a quiet, home wedding with only a few friends of the family present. Rev. Roscoe Jerrell officiated. The bride is tfee accomplished daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. J. S. Cude, wh? have recently located in Elkhart from L'beral. On Monday the -'couple left fir Liberal, where for the present, at least, they will reside We wish them prosperity and happiness through a long married life.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY On last Saturday eveninc a number of the friends of Miss Bessie Welsh gathered at her home for a social remembrance of herfifteenth birthday. Several interesting games were played and about 10 o'clock refreshments were served consisting of ice cream and cake. The hostess received a number of nice presents. Those who enjoyed the ocons-sion as guests were: Misses Velma Bingham, Flora Lampkin, Wilma Lee, Fay Edgar, Nellie Tucker and Helene Mallory Messrs. "Common Joe" of the depot, Hohart and Lawson Tuck er.

All wished Miss Beessie many more such celebrations.
