Summed up in a very few-words, an editorial in the Topeka Capital gives the general condition in Kansas: It is a waste of time for anybody to undertake to toll Kansas it is not on the to) round of prosperity ladder, waving its hat at the admiring spectators, when such stories are everyday items in Kansas papers, as the Capital printed yesterday from Salina and Flainville, in widely separated parts of the State. At a farm sale in Cloud county from which a Salina man had just returned, yearling colts brought as high as $200, mules as high, hay in the barn at $13 a ton, and though the total sales aggregated $4,000, not a note was taken, the buyers paying cash from their big wads of bills rather than incur debts on which they would have interest to pay.

That was in Northwest Kansas. The Flainville story is one among hundreds of the some kind that have filled the local Kansas papers this fall, an alfalfa yield from 20 acres belonging to Isaac Conger, a former member of the Kansas Legislature, of 128 bushels of seed worth $7 a bushel at Plainville prices, on top1 of 120 tons of hay from the same tract, worth $6 a ton at Plainville, making the product from this 20-acre alfalfa gold mine $1,616, or $80 an acre. Such stories are so common that they have become stale in Kansas, but they tell of a tidal wave of prosperity of the most substantial character reaching every spot of land on the Kansas parallelogram of 80,000 square It will heat twice the space with half the fuel of any other heater. STEVENSON REAL ESTATE, LOANS, INSURANCE Titles carefully abstracted, Farm Loans only, negotiated on liberal terms. Insurance in standard companies. Deeds, mortgages, neatly and carefully drawn. Next Door to Telephone Central miles. Kansas credit was never so gilt edged, but as the Cloud county farm sale tells, this credit is not being used.

Deals are in cash and credit is stored for future use. The present is taking care of its own obligations, and there is no need of discounting the future. Such prosperity is real. However the situation may be on Wall street or anywhere else, Kansas not only has the titles to the goods, but it has the goods. To Set Right Value on Trifles.

"I have two words of counsel and suggestion that I think worth your consideration," says Margaret E. Sangster to her thousands of girl readers in the Nov. issue of the Woman's Home Companion. "The first is, be careful lest you underrate little things. In the scheme of life as it affects the well being of the home nothing is trifling.

The pretty stock that sets off the dainty toilet, the trim belt and the modish buckle, the becoming method of arranging the hair, the neat gloves and shoes that are accessories of a girl's costume, are of more value in setting off her beauty than are rich stuffs and gowns in the height of the fashion. Following out this idea the tact that sets people at ease, the unobstrusive helpfulness, the readiness to divert a fretful child or comfort a disappointed one, may appear trifling, but they reveal character and are indicative of sincerity ana noointy inwo-j manhood. Do not underestimate little things anywhere. "The second word is think twice before gauging anything merciy by its financial return. Thousands of girls not in actual need are making the mistake of fancying that the earning of money is the most desirable thing the period has to offer.

Believe me, it is often the least rewarding thing in which a girl can engage. The daughter at home on whom is laid no obligation to earn her own bread should feel herself in no way inferior to her friend whose duty it is to take her place among the paid laborers of the world." The farmer isn't so dependent on the crops as he used to be. When they fail now he can live comfortably by selling space in his pasture and on the side of his barn to the patent medicine companies. TWO Per Cent elsewhere. Watch for best farm products.
