We learn a contribution, including some subscriptions, amounting to a little over forty-nine dollars has been made by the friends to the American Bible Society, during the past week. Notes Jast After the Storm. Writing at our table a little time since, our attention was attracted to a roaring outside evident signs of a storm had only time to Close windows and doors, and hurry down to the front door, when a storm blowing furiously was upon us. The wind came Slain street from the North, for a few minutes, then came roaring in from the West a peifect tornado. The Wester" seemed to grapple with this Northern giant, soon showing evident signs of a sharp contest wind warred with wind, rain pent up for the last ten months, a far as this country is con.

cerned, seemed to euter the contest and fairly west end of the dining-room. About this time there was an immense commotion among the inmates of our mansion. Thronging to and fro in hot haste, some retreating to cellar, others to dry corners just discovered, a few in hot desperation launching out into the street, and a an angle of some degrees, leaving the Legislative Hall to the left, took northerly course parallel with the rale, I lnuicating a determination of abandoning Rowena Hotel, to the impending destruction they imagined as sure to come and near at hand. But happily the hydropathic applica tions received, soon decided these to return, as a naif shelter just then, appeared Better than none. Altogether, there was some'hing of a stampede, some considerable fear, and some pale faces, cut tiie old stone buuaing stood the gale, which blew hard about twenty minutes.

There is now a calm as is always the case after a storm, and there is a general canvassing of results, sweeping out rain, tc. His Honor the Governor, just now drove up in a covered buggy, reporting he was caught out in the storm, and just as the gale was ap- proachir.g, tied his horse and buggy to a fence, strapping the buggy vhfcls firmly saved it from being carried into the air. That fence and forethought were fortunate, circumstancs, during the storm. Here office signs held a kind of jubilee, looking some as if they were having a game of chess.
