FRED SHERRILL DEAD Herington Lady Died Tuesday of Pneumonia at Peabody Last week The Times told of the little sunbeam that had come to brigh ten the home of Fred Sherrill the miracle of birth. The young parents were rejoicing over the arrival of a their first born, and they wer? b.iilding fond hopes for him. This week this paper must tell its readers of the dark shadow that has entered this home the mystery of death. The mother, stricken a few days after the birth of the baby with pneumonia, fought valiantly for several days for life but to no avail, for Tuesday afternoon the death messenger came.

Mrs. Sherrill passed away at the home of her mother, Mrs. Kelly, at Peabody where she had been for several weeks. She was a splendid woman and the news of her death brought sadness to all who knew her many noble qualities. The deepest sympathy of numerous friends goes out to the husband who has suddenly found himself bereft of her who gladly shared with him his burdens and griefs as well as his joys, hopes and ambitions.

Sunday morning Pastor Richardson will preach on "Prevailing Prayer." Evening subject, "A Double Header Running Both Ways." Special music. Many spoke of Mrs. Richardson's A A Ballantyne in Accident. Tom H. Ballantyne, formerly a resident of this community, has been unconscious since early last week at his home at Pearl as the result of a fall.

Mr. Ballantyne is employed in an elevator at Pearl. Yesterday he was still unconscious. His case baffles the physician. Mr, Ballantyne lived here for many years and has numerous friends in this vi cinity who are earnestly hoping for his recovery.

Why? Because of the frequent failures. But we use the word "cure" and guarantee that B. A. Thomas Hog Powder will cure 90 hogs out of 100. The record today is a little over 95 out of every 100 so we guarantee 90.

We don't care what others may think or say. We know what we are doing and will sell you B. A. Thomas Hog Powder, guaranteeing that it will save 9 out of ten hogs. It is medi cine straight medicine.

It is because it's straight medicine that it cures 95 times out of 100. C. E. Shepherd. H.

Mary Elizabeth Funk was born near Singer's Glen, Rockingham coun ty, in the beautiful and historic Shen andoah Valley of Virginia on Novem ber 4th 1840. She was united in mar riage with John B.

Gangwer on Octo ber 9th 1856. To this union were born nine children, of whom six survive a follows: Mrs. W. P. Blake of Shawnee Oklahoma, E.

K. Gangwer of Wilsey Mrs. Frank Grass of Herington, Gangwer of Matfield Green, Kansas J. E. Gangwer of Wilsey, R.

C. Gang wer of Council Grove, Kansas. At the age of 17 she united with the Baptist church and remained true to her faith always. The family came to Morris county, Kansas, in October 1885 and settled on a farm near Dela van. They lived in that vicinity for fifteen years and more and Mrs.

Gang wer had many staunch and true friends there. She was a charter member of the Baptist church of thi city, a church that was always dear to her heart. Her husband preceded her to the better world May 4th, 1904. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, Rev. B.

Funk of Mountville, J. A. Funk of Denver, Colorado and one sister Mrs. Sarah Cooper of Granville, Ohio besides other In the later years of her life she made her home with her daughter Mrs. Frank Grass at whose home she died Sunday, January 16th, 1916, aged 75 years, two months and 12 days Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Tuesday January 18 1916 conducted by Rev.

George Richardson pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Frank Ryerson of the Methodist church. Bu rial was in Sunset Hill cemetery. With the death of Mrs. Gangwer, one of the best women of the com munity passed away.

She lived i beautiful Christian life, one that was an example and a source of inspira tion to all who knew her. Her life was a useful one. In the early days when she lived near Delavan, individual churches were poor in purse and weak in membership. So the Christian people of all sects held un ion meetings and union bunday schools. Mrs.

Gangwer was one of the women who devoted time and thought and energy to making these Sunday schools and meetings a means of help to the community. Her first Kansas pastor, Rev. Henry, of Wil sey, in a few words at the funeral paid a beautiful tribute to her relig ious work in the pioneer days. Mrs. Gangwer raised a good fam ily and was a neighbor and citizen who always had the interests of the public at heart, and it was a great pleasure to her in her last days to see the progress that had been made in this section of Kansas.

For several months she had been a great sufferer, but she bore her pain with marvelous courage and fortitude. She had known for weeks that the end was near. Calm, unafraid, and secure in the faith that was the dominant feature of her life, she passed on to her reward. CHRISTIAN CHURCH Those who are taking the Teacher- Training work feel that they are m3k ing valuable discoveries in each les son. The lessons are absorbingly ii teresting.

Dreamland Attraction "The Man Who Could'nt Beat God is the story of a man who fights his conscience in order to forget a mur der. Although he strives by work and right living in a new country and among new acquaintances to over come the thoughts of his crime, the spectre of the murdered man con fronts him at every turn. Finally at tracted to the scene where he bartered his soul, a vision of his victim ma terializes and points an accusing fin ger.

Unable to stand the strain lon ger, he falls on the spot, where years before, he began the fight with his conscience. "The Man Who Could'nt Beat God" is the second prize winner in the New York Evening Sun-Vitagraph Seen ario contest, and was written by Har old Gilmore Calhoun. It is a story of action that keeps the interest at fev er heat, teaching a lesson that while brought home most forcibly, is made so attractive, it seems to take second place to the story. Maurice Costello enacted the prin cipal character and gives a convincing portrayal of a man who fights for fame and wins, to lose in his fight with the Creator. The Vitagraph Company has released "The Man Whe Could'nt Beat God" under that stamp of quality, the Blue Ribbon Trade Mark, as a five part drama, At Dreamland tomorrow in matinee at3 p.
