51 jj IMEfl OFFICIAL STATEMENT of the financial condition of the rOOO vogr Smith For Congress Meeting To say that we are surprised at the action of the Abilene Chronicle in selling out. to Mr. Rees who is a candidate against Sam Smith for Congressional honors is putting it mildly to say the least. But now that he sees that Sam Smith has a good fighting chance to win, that paper comes out with a column and a half article, selling out soul, body and spirit to the Rees for Congress outfit, aDd that, too, on the simple plea that they don't believe that Sam Smith can win.

Sam Smith was the first candidate announced in the 5th district against Mr. Calderhead, and every Dickinson county Republican should stand loyally by him, and would only for the influence brought to bear by those who have not the good of Dickinson county at heart. The indignation meeting held in Abilene last Friday night at which between two and three hundred leading Republicans were present and helped to adopt ringing resolutions taking to task the Chronicle for its flup against a Dickinson county home man, speaks loudly for those men who have the best interests of the Republican party of the 5th Congressional district in mind. Republicans of Dickinson county, stand by your colors, and support Sam Smith for congress, first, last and all the time. If you will he is surely going to win.

At the meeting of Republicans above referred to the following resolution was nnamimously adopted: Resolved: That we, the Republican voters of the city of Abilene, in Dickinson county, state of Kansas, voicing the sentiments of practically all of the Republican electors of this county, feel an indignation which it would not be proper to express in words, at the action of the Abilene Chronicle in transferring its support from Hon. S. S. Smith to Judge R. R.

Rees. All those who are acquainted with the facts well know that its support can neither add nor take from the strength of Mr. Smith's candidacy; and we adopt and publish these resolutions for the benefit of the electors of the district who might be deceived from want of knowledge, and hereby express and confirm our allegiance to Mr. Smith, not only for the reason that he is a citizen of Dickinson county, but for the further reason that we believe him to be the best qualified of the candidates seeking nomination. We wish to further say that we are firmly confident that the action of the Chronicle at this time in transferring its support from Mr.

Smith to Judge Rees is not prompted by thehyprocritical pretence that it does nut believe that Mr. Smith can be nominated, but that it is actuated by sordid and dishonest motives. at! All kinds of hose and hose repairs of January, 1911 Correct Attest: irectors. F. D.
