J. S. Crew, of the extensive wholesale book and stationery firm of Crew invitud our party to a seat in his carriage for tlie purpose of "taking in" the town. Accepting the invitation, we soon found ourselves on the nicely pavod road leading to the Fort. This road was built by the government, is about four miles in length, aud is the popular boulevard of the city.

Every afternoon, when the weather is pleasant, this pop-ular thoroughfare is thronged with the elite of Leavenworth in their fine buggies carriages and barouches.
