Mr. Blackburn is working for Riley Vanhouten this week. Wesley Lewis moved last Friday to Colorado. Mr. and Mrs.

Medford were In More-head Saturday. Ona Dowell spent Saturday and Sun day with home folks. Charley Stroud "was a Morehead visitor Saturday. Alford Jones went to Neodesha Thursday. T.

L. Dowell spent Sunday with his uncle, Cary Smalley. Frank Bryson drove to Cherryvale Tuesday. Mrs. Jones went to Thayer Monday.

Perry Vance was in our midst Mon day evening. Flossie Dowell was absent from school Monday on account of sickness. Wyatt Linscot't, who is working In Cherryvale, spent Sunday with home folks. Smith spent Saturday and Sunday with home folks. BIG CREEK.

Big Creek, Jan. 16. Lewis Schul'ti of St. Joseph, visited during a part of last week with Mrs. Martin and family.

The nominating committee of Big Creek Sunday School met last Sat urday night. The school accepted the nominees and the officers were soon elected. Mr. Rice retains the place of superintendent, while only a few changes were made. Dick Mt-Kee celebrated his tenth birthday.

He invited his little friends to dine with him Sunday. Those In attendance were Dorthy Scott, Lillie Lefever, Walter and Rob Martin. Little Bcrnice Brown was buried Jan. 14 in Big Creek cemetery, Rev. Smith, preaching an appropriate ser mon at the funeral services.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of their friends. A little daughter arrived to brighten the home of Wesley Eimey on Jan. 16. All parties quite well. RURAL.

Rural, Kansas, Jan. 16. Vernle Ril ey has been sick this week. Walter and Ida Packard and Homer Fletcher spent Sunday evening at Mr. Riley's.

Mr. Hathaway is improving his res idence by ihe aditlon of a new porch. Mr. Null spent Sunday at Mr. Fletcher's.

Ernest and David Stewart and Fred Hathaway called on Walter Packard last Wednesday evening. Mrs. L. C. Taylor and children and Miss Lillie and Everett Taylor visited Geo.

Mr. Hodgden who has been living on the Sam Noffsker farm is contemplating moving south of Chanute some time this week. Phillip ReUig Is now employed at the Rollin refinery. Henry Burghart helped Augustus Gericke a half-day last wevk loading a car of corn at Rollin. PIATT. Piatt, Jan. 10. Revival services began Monday ev ening at Mt. Pleasant church and will last for several weeks. Rev. Smith of Chanute will conduct the services. He is a fine man and we hope for a great deal of good to be accomplished.

and Mrs. C. D. Helmer. Albert Ellis and Stella Dchler spent Sunday evening with Miss Cora East-burn.

Mark Eastburn visited with Mr. and Mrs. J. Matuls Sunday. Mr.

and Mrs. Locky Matbes called on B. D. Ellis and family Sunday evening. Frank Wells was absent from school Monday.

Our new mail carrier Is doing good work and we are well pleased wltU him. Scott Forshea was visiting with Pf-ry Singer Sunday. Did. you attend church at Shaw last Sunday night? Several from here attended the play, "A Royal Slave," at Erie Fri day night. The Shaw schol had a spellin school last Thursday night and of course Piatt was there and as a mutter of fact it came off victorious.

Our good speller, Lloyd Midcap, was the champion speller. Piatt is proud of her pupils and of course she will al ways win. John and Ruth LaRue visited with Mr. and Mrs. T.

C. Leatherman and family Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C.

D. Helmer and son, Eddie, visited Mr. and Mrs. T. Leatherman and family Wednesday evening.

Mr. and' Mrs. C. D. Helmer entertained Mr.

and Mrs. B. D. Ellis Sunday. John Mathis of Chanute was visiting in this vicinity Sunday.

L. Ingels and wife and Harry Ingels. John Collnls sold a horse Tuesday, Mrs. Libby Ingels accompanied Mrs. Scantlin to Iola Thursday to attend the Scantlin trial, but it was postponed.

A. W. Alford butchered two large hogs Wednesday. A. C.

Alford Is hauling bay. Mr. and Mrs. J. H.

Edwards of Cof-feyville, are visiting relatives at Lean-na, and looking after the interest of Mr. Edward's farm. Newton and Errett Alford have purchased a fine team of black mares. Several from here attended the Scantlin trial Monday. There was no church Sunday.

The city, began drillng for gas on the John Nelson place the first part of the week. Harry Downing fell off an oil tank when at work on the Ryberg lease Tuesday and was considerably bruised Mr. Jones living six miles southwest of Chanute purchased some Leghorn cockerels of A. G. Nelson.

Frank Blaire, John Powell, and Bl'l Castle are aslsting Mr. Jacobs with his farm work. Misses Beka and Sophia Floatman spent Monday with their sister, Mrs Clemens. Mr. and Mrs.

James Wilson of Washington, are expected here this week They will make their home witH W. H. Blaue and family. Harry Toomey is absent from school this week on account of serious illness. We miss him very much and hope to have him with us soon.

Albeit Ewing and family, and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Speck were visiting In this vicinity, Sunday.

Mrs E. J. Moeller was calling on th. sick of the neighborhood this week. The oil men are still at work on the Hummer lease, and will drill another well in the near future.
