W. C. Hill, of Bushnell, is here looking at Butler oounty lands with C. 0. Turner.

The Tarbete Concert of New York City, was in town to-day, on its way to Eureka. Olerk of the district court V. A. Osborn is doing the work of his office now without an assistant Mrs. Harry Pattison gives a card party to a number of young people at her home this evening.

W. F. Bellairs, of Wichita, commercial agent of the Mo. Pacific, WAS in town today on business. Thomas Vest and family of near De Gray left this morning for Ellerton, Iowa, where they will reside in the future.

The Fort Smith tornado was a horrible affair. We have all along believed that tornadoes did not come in winter and were unknown after 11 o'clock at night. The Fort Smith one knocks both these theories out. So it is now in order to look out for a tornado any warm day in winter or hot day in summer. Make Some Improvement.

The streets of Rome were kept clean by every man sweeping before his own door. A town is kept in good condition by eyery one caring for and improving his own property. R. F. Cory has lately completed a very nice 16x16 barn upon his residence property in west El Dorado.

It is well made, is surmounted by a cupola, and is a good substantial improvement. Mr. Cory and his son, Jay, did the work themselves at odd times. Every property owner in El should make some improvement during the coming year and then our town will present a much more inviting appearance to strangers. The Annex.

The "Annex" to the Ladies Home Circle Reading Club will follow the same course of study that the club is following; i.e. tho Chicago Record course, and will meet with the club for review once a month. The officers of the "Annex" are Miss Alice Murdock president, Miss Cora Mooney secretary and treasurer. The other members are Flora and Cecil Leland, Caroline Gardner, Myrtle Shelden, Nettie Ellet, Grace Robbins, Lena Murdock, Mre Harry Pattison, Mra Jay Gensler. They meet every Wednesday afternoon with Miss Leland.

Died. Mra. Rhoda A Nordyke, aged 29, wife of A. F. Nordyke and daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. B. Rogers, died this forenoon at her home on North Main atreet, of diabetes. Mra. Nordyke had been ill for a number of months, but had been confined to her bed only since January 5th.

Mre. Nordyke was all active member of the Rathbone Sisters, and her death will be sincerely mourned by members of that order, as well as by many other friends. The husband has the symyathy of all. Fabio Romani. The theatre going people, who had the pleasure of hearing Arden Benedict's melodrama "Fabio Romani" at Ellet's opera house last year will be pleased to hear that the play will be repeated here Jan.

Omaha Again in a State of Siege and Anthorities Are in Conflict. OMAHA, Jan. 13. -Pending the settlement of the existing difficulty in connection with the Omaha police commission, the city hall is in a state of siege, the chief of police having in his office a force of men, while in the rooms of the police commission another force is quartered. All this grows out of an attack made by a firm of local attorneys on the constitutionality of the act under which the acting board was appointed by Gov.

Holcomb. Judge Scott rendered a decision yesterday declaring the act unconstitutional. The governor's appointees, however, refuse 1 to give way to the board named by the mayor and council under Judge Scott's decision. BOARD OF AGRICULTURE. J.

C. Rippey Re-Elected Secretary for the Ensuing Year -Enconraging Conditions. COLUMBIA, Jan. 13. -The annual meeting of the Missouri state board of agriculture adjourned yesterday.

The board elected as officers for the ensuing year: President, D. A. Ely, of Adair county; vice president, J. T. Groves, of Lafayette county; secretary, J.

C. Rippey, of Schuyler county; assistant secretary, Miss S. B. Wilis, of Audrain county; treasurer, H. H.

Banks, of Columbia. The secretaries' reports show a large increase in the agricultural products of Missouri. The funds of the board are in good shape. Resolutions were adopted asking for an appropriation for supporting state officers for teaching the elements of agriculture in the common schools and for enabling the secretary of the board to collect statistics through the county assessors, as is done in other states. John Friend had the index finger of his left band cut off to day by a buzz saw.

Miss Lillian Kuster came up from Augusta this moroing on a visit to her sister, Mra. Will Wackerle.
