WALNUT VALLEY TIMES MISS FLORA POOL, City Editor Wednesday Evening, Jane Mrs. J. L. Case returns to Florence in the morning. Covenant and business meeting at the 1st Baptist church tonight.

A new baby girl blesses the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wackerie. Three small painter's brushes await an owner at the TIMES office. Licensed to wed: Ullum, 20 and Bertha Ball, 19, of Plum Grove.

Ice cream and strawberry social at Chelsea tomorrow evening. Fred Carr leaves Monday for Perry, Oklahoma, to spend the aummer. Willis Myers will graduate from the Kansas University next Wednesday. A number of fuses were burned out of the phone system last night by ligbtning. The Baptist Ladies Aid Society meets with Mra.

M. H. Taylor tomorrow at 2:30. Mrs. Milton Gregg and little daughter, are guests of Mr.

and Mra. Harry Sexton. Judge G. P. Alkman addressed citizens of Latham on Decoration Day to their please ure.

Misses Hattie Smith and Jean Wilson are attending the Hutchinson Musical Jub1100. The Teacher's Reunion Was rained out last evening. It Will be held next Monday evening. Miss Florence Curtis of Huron, South Dakota, is a guest of her sister, Miss May Curtis, here. Seth Cook has started a peanut and fectionery stand south of the Windsor hotel on Main street.

Major H. W. Schumacher is determined to go to war willy-nilly. Governor Leedy strongly favors him. O.

J. Lesh's grain house today. One of them extricated itself, but the other had to be helped out. Mrs. Alvah Shelden and all the "kids" are attending the marriage of Mrs.

Blanche Lamb, niece of Mrs. Shelden, to Dr. D. Koberts at Arkansas City. The ceremony occurs this evening at 8 o'clock.

New officers in Rebekah Lodge: Mra May Mitchell, Miss Bertice Simmons, Mrs Clark, secretary; McAnally, treasurer; Mrs Alcinda Fisher, representative to the state assembly. The call for a citizen's meeting Friday evening for the welfare of our sick soldiers at Chickamauga is made at 7:80 in order that there will be no interference with Mrs. Black's commencement exercises. The b'hoys of the 21st Kansas at Chicamaugs Park refer to their chaplain as "Holy Joe." It is all done out of the exuberance of their feelings, they do not tend to be impertinent or really disrespectful. A tremendous rain fell here tor 80 minutes about 6:30 last evening.

More than an inch of water fell to that time. As James Whitcomb Riley observed angels must have tipped all the water buckets over at once." Mra. Zillah Malone will close her dressmaking parlors and leave next week to join her husband in Kansas City. She has disposed of her household goods. Mrs.

Malone is a lady who will be missed by very many friends here. At the Butler county Co-oporative Convention of the Christian church, held at Benton, Rev. J. L. McCune was elected president for the unexpired term of Elder P.

H. Guy who has moved from the county. The next meeting will be held at Latham in August. Rust has made its appearance on Butler county wheat but the crop is 80 near maturity that unless there is excessive rain the grain will not be affected. The acreage and condition in both state and county 18 at the maximum.

of New York City, a member of the Official Board of Lectureship of the Mother Church of Christian Science, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Boston, will deliver a lecture upon the "Practical Excellence of Christian Science" at Ellet's Opera House June 13, I A call is made for a meeting of the citizens of El Dorado in the council room day evening, June 8rd, at 7:80. There are sick among our soldier boys of Co. H. at Chickamauga, and tuads are to be raised to provide delicacies for them not provided by the government. Officers will be elected and committees appointed.

It will be held at Ellet's Opera House where there 18 abundant room, light, a stage and all conveniences.

The Teachers Reunion will be held in Ellet's Opera House Monday evening, June 6th. Additional numbers have been placed on the program which makes it exceedingly interesting. The publicis invited to attend and meet the Butler county teachers. Admission free. Mr.

and Mra. Joseph Thompson will leave Friday night for Highland, Kansas, to attend the funeral of Mrs. Thompson's uncle, Johnson, who died very suddenly yesterday. Mr. Johnson visited here frequently and will be remembered by many, He graduated from Harvard in 1846, in the same class with Senator Hoar of Massachusotte.

Williams was at Coffeyville recently and saw Pert Florea and Will McGinnis. Bert has built an elegant new residence in new part of the city. His parents and sister, Miss Emile, occupy his new home with him. Will McGinnis still enjoys a good position in the carpet department of the leading store and when he takes down a roll to display to a walks off and leaves -A negro picks it up and replaces it. Pool for gome time has returned to Pittsburg, Pennsylv ania, his former home. McClellan Whitemore was killed at Fort Scott last evening during the storm. He was a switchman in the Mo. Pac. yards.

A box car was blown off the track and caused a small wreck. No further particulars are known. He was yard master bere about three years ago. He leaves a wife and three children. He was member of the Masonic Lodge here.

Institate Notes. Rev. W. W. Curtis led the opening exercires at the Institute this morning by Bible reading and prayer.

Prot. E. C. Marshall suggested that perhaps none of the teachers present had ever experienced a time in which it was appropriate to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" just after prayer. But with one accord their voices rang out with its patriotic notes.

Artie Pemey mentioned the manly principal of our officers and men at Chickamauga in preferring to do without aid for their sick rather than use the proceeds from the sale of liquor as was told in Mrs. Armstrong' late letter. An extract was read by Superintendent Holcomb from one of Robert Vaught's let tera in which the teachers at Chickamsuga sent greetings to those assembled at the Institute. That moment they realized fully how many of those who were among them here last year, were far away on the scemes of the famed old their eyes filled with tears that were prompted by friendship. A summer class in shorthand and writing will commence Monday, June 6th.
