In each of five counties, Leavenworth, Shawnee, Johnson, Bourbon and Wyandotte, the railroad property is valued at over half a million dollars, and in each of five other counties, Atchison, Crawford, Douglas, Jefferson and Neosho, it exceeds in value over $400,000. BEER. At the annual Convention of the United States Brewers' Association, held this week in St. Louis, some very interesting statistics concerning the manufacture and consumption of beer in this country were presented. The sales for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1878, aggregated barrels, while those lor the first nine months of the present fiscal year show an increase of 409,929 barrels over the corresponding months of last year, which would swell the product, for the year ending June 30th, to a total of 10,000,000 barrels.

It is estimated that there are 400 glasses of beer in every barrel. Hence this country is now drinking 4,000,000,000 glasses of beer annually, or an average, estimating the total population at of eighty glasses for every man, woman and child. It is probable, however, that one-half of the people, including men, women and children, never, or very rarely, drink beer, and hence that the UCHU. CON-GRESSMAX Laud thinks Secretary Sherman ought to be impeached for selling $190,000,00 of 4 per cent, bonds in one day to the Syndicate. That is to say, the Secretary should lose his omcipl head for reducing the interest on our national debt. And yet Mr. La dm pretends to be consumed with a desire to relieve the people. If possible, the Democratic party is meaner now than it was in 1809.

et Gen. Tom. Ewix' who in reported resolutions to the Osawatomie Convention denouncing the Democratic party as guilty of the most atrocious crimes, is now the Democratic candidate for Governor of Ohio. At that time the Democratic party was making war on Freedom in Kansas. Since that time it has plunged the country into a bloody war.

And it is now attempting to reverse all the results of that war, and make treason a badge of honor. The Senate Finance Committee yesterday, by a vote of four to three, postponed the consideration of the Warner silver bill until next. Senators Bayard and Kerxax, Democrats, and Ferry and Ai.usox, Ilepublic.ins, voted in favor of postponement, and Senators Beck and Voorhees, Democrats, and Joxes, of New, Republican, voted against postponement. Senators Morrill, Republican, and Wallace, Democrat, were paired. The latter would have voted against and the former for postponement.

THE A. S. EXTEXNKH. Seward and Butler counties, Nebraska, have both voted bonds to aid in extending the Atchison and Nebraska railroad north to Columbus, Nebraska, a distance of about sixty-five miles. One more county, Flatte, will vote on a similar proposition next Tuesday, and a favorable result is confidently anticipated.

The extension of the A. N. to Columbus ia one of great importance. The proposed line traverses one of the richest and most beautiful sections of Nebraska, and will afford the A. N.

a direct connection with the Union Pacific railroad. Its line will then be over two hundred miles in length, and we" hazard nothing in saying that there is no railway in the West that will traverse, from its initial to its terminal poiut, a country richer in agricultural wealth or capable of greater devopment than is the region through which the A. N. will run from the Railroad Centre to the Platte Valley. Col.

Towxe and the owners of the A. N. are entitled to great credit for tLe work they have already done in connection with this extension, and we know that they will faithfully and honorably fulfil every pledge they have made to the people of Seward, Butler and Platte counties with reference to this enterprise. The A. N.

has always been a well-managed and enterprising railroad, and its management enjoys a deservedly high reputation for public-spirited liberality. Its officers are thorough railroad men, and they have spared no labor or expense in making the road first-class in every particular. The Columbua extension is of special importance to the interests of Atchison. It will make directU tributary to this city a very large section of the richest county By any remedy known. It is prescribed by ROBERT M'CRIE, MERCHANT TAILOR, Always keeps the Largest and Finest Stock of Goods to be found in the city.
